CALL ME SON

Over time I got to know some things about fostering and children in care. ss1I wanted to try and tell you a bit about these children. I wasn't ever a child in care and you won't see or hear a foster child in my film. The authorities won't let a child in care be filmed nor will any of their allied agencies. You can't hear their stories first hand so this is the best I could do. The only films you will ever see about foster children will be corporate type advertising encouraging you to become a foster parent or to adopt. That is a great message but it doesn't even begin to tell you about the life of a child in care.

There are many good stories about fostering and adoption but there needs to be many more. The system is very far from perfect. When I was making the film I wouldn't compromise and cut 6 minutes from it because it wasn't a film to win awards but rather hearts. I wanted to say how instability in a foster child's life is very destructive.

Anyway don't read anymore just watch and listen to the video below. It might be too negative but once again it isn't the full story. It will be uncomfortable to listen to but I hope at the end you understand that continually moving children is something you should be concerned about. If you think my perspective on this is wrong then listen to Alan Johnson the Labour Government's Social Services Minister apologising for what HE regards as the biggest failure of the current Government.

Thank you.
